1. More complicated type of brake is a drum brake. The concept here is simple. Two semicircular brake shoes sit inside a spinning drum which is attached to the wheel. When you apply the brakes, the shoes are expanded outwards to press against the inside of the drum. This creates friction, which creates heat, which transfers kinetic energy, which slows you down. The example below shows a simple model. The actuator in this case is the blue elliptical object. As that is twisted, it forces against the brake shoes and in turn forces them to expand outwards. The return spring is what pulls the shoes back away from the surface of the brake drum when the brakes are released. See the later section for more information on actuator types. height adjustment telescoping handle (adjusts from 37in to 55in) ball bearing wheels pneumatic tires and rugged steel construction are just a few of the features of this American-made product. |

2. This is a pair of 2 GM Finned Brake Drums 9.5''x2'' which came out of a commercial estate and they are in new and never used condition. They are ready to install with no machining necessary and these are a great find at a fraction of retail if they are what you need, whether you want to keep them on hand or use them right now. In the original boxes each measures 3''x12''x13,'' together they weigh 33 pounds and the high bidder will win both brake drums. Aimco Premium, a high-quality value line for normal-duty passenger cars and light trucks, meets original equipment fit, form and function specifications. Direct fit replacement. Comparable to Aimco 8955 Rear Brake Drua. Handles all popular 15in. and 16 1/2in. drums. A drum brake assembly is used to bring the rear wheels of most vehicles to a stop. Fluid pressure from the master cylinder causes the wheel cylinder to push the brake shoes against the brake drums which are attached to the vehicle's rear wheels. The friction between the stationary shoes and the revolving drums causes the drums to slow and stop the rear wheels. |
