1. The revolutionary DSG gearbox available in various VW models since 2003 does away with a clutch and provides virtually seamless and lightning fast gear changes. It effectively pre-selects the next gear ratio reducing the time it takes to change gears significantly. This is a very ‘simple’ explanation and we will ensure that we write a technical article on this modern wonder in the very near future. The acclaimed Volkswagen DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) has evolved from a humble 6-speed into a new compact 7-speed and undergone a thorough revision in the process. It's nice to see how compact the latter one is compared to the first, despite the fact that it has seven segments ratio. If time allows, I'll try to post the official picture/s of the DKG a.k.a. DCT for the BMW E90/2/3 M3 as well. With this new powertrain the M5 offers the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. In the tradition of BMW M, the chassis has been engineered to keep up with the power while the exterior treatment is subtle, yet distinctive. |
