1. The gearbox is from Ford Sierra (Mercury Merkur XR4Ti in the USA), 1.6L & 1.8L: 1982-91, & 2.0L: 1982-87. The gearbox is not included in the kit, but may be procured locally or through the kit supplier. Various alternative gear ratios can be provided including a close ratio gearbox and a standard ratio gearbox with a higher first gear ratio of 2.98:1. The vehicle speedometer will need calibrating. Several companies are able to do this. Sierra is the most common set of ratios used in the MGA 5 speed.
Granada is more difficult to obtain. In the USA the Ford Merkur box is the same as the Type 9. Many gear ratios are available on special order. 2.445 c/r 1st gear in a Twin Cam can be a pig on hill starts. 3.640 std. barely gets across a stop road junction without changing (with std. diff.) 2.930/2.830 1st in the Sierra/Granada is a nice compromise. Includes paint and sealant. Supply drain plug and mill, drill and tap main case to suit (As drain plugs are not fitted from factory). 12 month guarantee. |

2. We have available the popular Sierra T9 5-speed gearbox suitable for Escorts, 4-cylinder Cortinas, 4-cylinder and V6 Capris and kit cars (widely used in the PRB Clubman). Having sold over 1000 gearboxes we have found this to be a simple conversion. In the Escort, for example, they can utilize the standard clutch, clutch cable, starter motor, and tail shaft. The only modifications to the car are the location of the hole for the gearshift and to the gearbox mount location. These gearboxes are available in various forms from a straight second hand box to a fully reconditioned box and beyond to full race specifications with straight cut gears, dog engagement and sequential shifters. We also offer many spare parts to suit these gearboxes.
Top cover removed, visually inspected and turned over to check feel. New top cover gasket . New front seal housing gasket. New speedo seal. New parts are supplied not fitted. New front seal. New rear seal. Standard shifter supplied. 6 month guarantee. Pulled down and inspected. Worn parts replaced with good second hand parts if necessary. |
