1. Inevitably there'll be some lowering of the outer limits of adhesion, but on the other hand Yokohama has, apparently, given the C.Drive a slightly softer rubber compound for use on the Lotus. Yokohama is one of the top ten tyre companies in the world. In the UK there has been a steady build-up of the brand with an emphasis on the high performance sector. Its presentation at shows and events is always professional and stylish, mirroring its top quality products. Tires carry a Transport Canada approval code that identifies the tire manufacturer and plant, tire make and model, and the date of production. In this example, the tire was built during the 45th week of the 8th year (probably 1998). Compounds, some brands will list a rubber compound, soft compound tyres like the 40a will offer superior grip to a 60a, but will not offer as much tread life due to the softer compound. Sidewalls, a DH tyre will have a thicker sidewall to enable it to be run at a lower pressure and minimise the risk of pinch punctures. This also offers more surface contact with the ground and maximises grip on corners. |

2. 205/60 R14: GC will increase by 0.5mm, speedo error 0.5%, would be a good upgrade. Check whether wheel well has enough room though. 195/60 R14: GC will decrease by 5.5mm, speedo error 1.8%, reduction in GC is a concern. 185/65 R14: GC will decrease by 2.3mm, speedo error 0.7%, would be a good upgrade. In other words, 205/60 has the widest sidewall, best for comfort, and best looks. It also has the least speedo error, it also has the best grip. Only downside would be increased road contact, which means less FE and car should be powerful enough to compensate for increased road resistance, and wheel well should be big. I think verna CRDi has the power to handle the 205 tyres. Sam, go for the 205/60R14 if it fits the wheel well. And I recommend Yokohama ES100, I have it on my Baleno and it does have great looks and performance. The tyre on the right is Yokohama. |
